Shiraz - TOMB OF HAFEZ
 
The tomb of the famous poet and mystic of 8th century Iranian, 14th century western (about 1320-1389).It has a garden with pools, very pleasant, relaxing and restful. It is a Marble tombstone, engraved with the poet's work, placed by Karim Khan in 1773. In 1935, an octagonal pavilion supported by eight stone columns was put over it. It has a small library, a teahouse, and a good souvenir and bookshop. Hafez loved his birth place Shiraz so he refused many generous invitations inside and outside of Iran.
 
Shiraz - TOMB OF SAADI
 
The tomb of Saadi, the poet and mystic of 7th century Iranian, 13th century western (about 1207-1291). It is a Marble tomb dates from 1860s; an octagonal shaped building, walls inscribed with Saadi work in tile. It has an underground pool where people throw coins into the water and make a wish. You can purchase food and drink near the entrance.
 
DARVAZE KORAN OR KORAN GATEWAY
 
The ancient gated entrance to Shiraz. Also, the burial tomb for Mir Ali, grandson of Imam Musa Kazem, the seventh Saint in Shiite Islam. Karim Khan added a room at the top of the gateway to house a holy Koran so people when entered the city they passed under the Koran (now the Koran is kept in Pars Museum). The complex also includes tomb of Khaju-ye Kermani, the famous poet contemporary to Saadi. You can climb up the hill to the teahouse. Watch steep steps. The view of Shiraz is breathtaking from this spot. It has a spectacular view at night.
 
Eram garden - Shiraz
 
Eram garden, Shiraz is a Palace from Ghajar Period (19th century). It is famous for its cypress trees it was made to compete with heaven, often called the Garden of Paradise. It is located in the middle of garden, has a beautiful pool with a charming palace from Ghajar Period (19th century).The architect was Haj Mohammad Hassan Memar.
 
Vakil bazzar - shiraz
 
Vakil bazzar was built by Karim Khan. The brick ceilings keep the Bazaar cool in summer and warm in winter. It is considered one of the best bazaars in Iran. One of our favorite places to shop, many good stores with very good prices.The architecture and atmosphere make it worthwhile to visit and shop. It is quite large with many sections. You will find stores in groups based on what they sell, like handcrafts stores above and carpet stores below. Remember that bargaining for the best price is not only a tradition but also fun and a skill. You can purchase Gabbeh (rugs woven by Fars nomads) in addition to other kinds of rugs and many other handcrafts.
 
Perspolis (Takht e Jamshid) - Shiraz
 
Persepolis (Capital of Persia in Greek) or Takht-e Jamshid (The Throne of Jamshid) became summer capital of Achaemenian after Pasargadae. The construction of this impressive palace started by Darius I, one of Cyrus's successors, in about 518 BC. Was completed over a period of 150 years by subsequent kings Xerxes I and Artaxerxes I. Naqsh e rajab - shiraz
 
At Naghsh-e Rajab you will see 3 large carvings. On the right you will find an equestrian scene and to the left a relief of Shapur surrounded by his generals. Look for Greek inscription on the chest of Shapur's horse relating to his ancestry and him as an emperor of the Aryans.The most important part of this site is the carving of the high Zoroastrian priest Karter, Mobad-e Mobadan (Priest of Priests) under three Sassanian emperors: Shapur, Bahram I and II. He was responsible for setting up a religious state under the Sassanian. The inscriptions relate the events in his life, his rise through the clerical hierarchy and his attacks on heretic religions. He is the only non-royal person appearing on a carving. There is also a scene of Shapur with an angel. 300 m (990 ft) south across the highway you can see what remains of a foundation for a tower similar to the Ka' be Zardusht (Kabba of Zoroaster) at Naghsh-e Rostam.
 
naqsh e rostam - Shiraz
 
You will see 4 tombs in the mountain of Darius I, Artaxerxes I, Xerxes I, and Darius II although historians debate about it. Eight stone carvings from Sassanian dynasty below the achaemenian tombs showing conquests of kings; believed was created to celebrate the victory of Sassanian king, over the Romanian invader, Valerian. It used to be a ladder which visitors could climb up to the tombs but is no longer available. The size of these is incredible!
 
Pasargad - shiraz
 
Pasargadae is located outside of Shiraz; Cyrus ordered construction undertaken at a valley site known to the Greeks as Pasargadae, where palaces, audience halls, and a towerlike structure with the folk name of Solomon's Prison were built. Pasargadae is the first capital of Achaemenian Empire. Hamadan served as a summer capital. Under Cyrus the Great, 599-530 BC, a Persian who founded the Achaemenid empire and ruled it from 549 to 530 BC. He formed a lasting union of the Persians and the Medes. The entire plateau fell under the sway of the Achaemenid Empire (c.550 BC-330 BC), which eventually stretched from the Mediterranean to India and into Africa. After Cyrus's death (529 BC), his body was placed within a limestone mausoleum built in imitation of a gabled wood house and set on a plinth composed of six very high steps. The Tomb of Cyrus, the impressive stone which was originally much taller but is still the best preserved of the remains of Pasargadae. At Pasargadae you will also see the remains of three Achaemenian Palaces, known as Throne of the Mother of Solomon, Prison of Solomon and two stone plinths within a sacred area. Persepolis (or Takht-e Jamshid) became the next palace constructed by Cyrus's successor Darius I.
 
SHAH-E CHERAGH ( HOLY SHRINE ) - Shiraz
 
This is the tomb of Ahmad, son of Musa, and brother of Imam Reza (the 8th saint in Shiite Islam). Ahmad was martyred and is buried in Shiraz. Shoes must be taken off before entering and you should dress respectfully. Visiting the shrine gives you serene and peaceful feeling. There is a museum displaying Korans, fine china, old coins and glassware.
 
Arg e Karim khan - shiraz
 
The biggest and the most important building of Zand Dynasty. It was Residence of Karim Khan and where he ruled with four circular towers, one of which on the southeastern side has a distinctive slope. Restoration is continuing. Decoration of this complex has been destroyed. The area of whole place is 12800 square meters (42,240 sq. ft), the height of each tower is 14 meter. Above the entrance is a large tile image of the killing of the white devil by Rustam. Made during Qajar dynasty which was added later to the Arg. Inside the Arg, there are different buildings, the north building was used in the winter, the south building for summer use, and west building was for all seasons. Outside of the building has simple presentation but on the contrary inside the rooms had beautiful decorations which are the characteristic of buildings during Karim Khan. There are fountains still in operation, flower and vegetable gardens and fruit trees. Work is in progress trying to save and restore the Arg.
 
NARANJESTAN GHAVAM - Shiraz
 
The building is a part of Ghavam complex. It was designed and used as the birooni (to receive people outside of the family circle). It was built 1879-1886, was the home of Governor's Court of Fars during the Qajar period. Also, the complex includes Zinat al Mulk house which was designed and used as andarooni (the home for only the close family). The complex also consists of a private bath house, a public bath house, and Hoseinieh (religious ceremony building). Andarooni and birooni buildings were connected together by an underground passage way. Significantly represent Iranian Architecture during Qajar period. During 1969-1979, Asian Institute used Naranjestan under famous American Archeologist Arthur Up ham Pope. Since 1998, the complex is used by the faculty of Art and Architecture of Shiraz University
 
Afif abad garden - shiraz
 
Afif Abad Garden, Once belonged to the Last Shah's wife, called Afif Abad Palace. It was built in 1863, influenced by Qajar style of architecture. The building has two floors with plaster work. The lower floor of the building is now military museum. In front of the building, there is a pretty pool which adds to the beauty. There are remains of a Turkish bath house and a teahouse where you can enjoy a cup of tea.
